Job Description

Human Rights Watch (HRW) is a leading international non-profit organization dedicated to defending human rights worldwide. We are seeking highly motivated and organized interns for our Sydney office.

About the Role

This internship offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the work of HRW's Advocacy and Development and Outreach Departments. You will be working on projects related to domestic and international human rights issues in Australia, with a focus on Asia region.

Responsibilities:
  • Conducting research and fact-checking on various topics;
  • Assisting with the preparation of published materials, such as op-eds, dispatches, and press releases;
  • Maintaining press coverage and updating lists;
  • Supporting outreach tasks regarding human rights in the Asia region, with a particular focus on Australia;
  • Using databases and assisting with event planning tasks;
Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you must be a currently enrolled student and have valid work authorization in Australia for the duration of the internship. Your skills and qualifications should align with those required by HRW, including experience in fundraising, media, social media, government relations, event planning, and Salesforce.

What We Offer:

As an intern at HRW, you will receive reimbursement for lunch and transportation expenses. This internship may also offer direct exposure to the workings of an international human rights organization, close supervision by the HRW staff, and interaction with other international organizations and foreign and domestic government officials.
