Human Rights Advocate Intern

Human Rights Watch is seeking two interns for the Sydney office. This internship provides an ideal opportunity to gain experience in a well-organized, international non-profit organization.
Job DescriptionThis internship focuses on projects surrounding domestic and international issues of Australia. Throughout the internship term, interns are offered the opportunity to participate in the collegial atmosphere of all aspects of daily Sydney Human Rights Watch office activities.
Responsibilities:- Conduct research and fact-checking;
- Assist with preparation of published materials, e.g. op-ed, dispatches, press releases and monitoring of news and current affairs;
- Update lists and monitor press coverage;
- Support outreach tasks regarding human rights in the Asia region, with a particular focus on Australia;
- Use databases and support event planning; and
- Other projects as assigned based on interests.
Interns must be currently enrolled students for the duration of the internship. Applicants should be organized, self-motivated and reliable with a strong interest in international human rights.
BenefitsInterns will be reimbursed up to $15 per day for lunch and up to $20 per day for transportation. Students may also be able to arrange academic credit for this internship.
SalaryThe estimated salary for this position is $25-$30 AUD per hour, equivalent to approximately $12,000-$14,400 AUD per year, depending on full-time or part-time work arrangements.
