About the Role

The NSW Government is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician to join our team at Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network.

This is an identified Aboriginal Health position, and applicants must be a person of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide mental health care and support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who experience severe mental illness, as they transition from custody to the community.

They will work in partnership with the Custodial Mental Health Service, primary health networks, Community Mental Health Services, and other government and non-government organisations to ensure continuity of care.

  • Develop mental health care plans and establish necessary therapeutic and cultural supports
  • Provide follow-up community care to individuals leaving custody
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure person-centred care
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A bachelor degree or higher level relative to role
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  • At least three years full-time equivalent post-registration experience in mental health
