About the Role

The Aboriginal Forensic Mental Health Clinician will work within a multidisciplinary team, providing cultural consultation and guidance on patient strategies, clinical interventions, and management plans. This role is a dedicated Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander position, and applicants must be able to prove Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being an Aboriginal person, and being accepted in the community as such.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Justice Health Network staff, liaising with the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations sector, and working closely with Aboriginal patients' families and carers.
  • Provide cultural advocacy and support, working collaboratively with the Forensic Hospital's Aboriginal Mental Health Clinical lead.
  • Seek support and guidance when required, working across all units within the Forensic Hospital.
Requirements
  • Qualification: Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health - Djirruwang Graduate).
  • Registration: Full Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse, Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, or eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • Evidence of Diversity claim if applicable, stating Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.
