About the Opportunity
Katherine West Health Board is seeking a skilled Mental Health Nurse to join their team in delivering trauma-informed care services. As a key member of the Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence (FDSV) Program, you will have the opportunity to shape the program's development and contribute to its foundational growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments to create tailored recovery plans and provide ongoing support to clients.
- Apply trauma-informed care principles to ensure a safe and supportive environment for clients.
- Develop and implement holistic, evidence-based, and culturally appropriate case management strategies for FDSV victim-survivors with complex needs.
- Educate clients, families, and communities about trauma and coping strategies to empower recovery.
- Deliver culturally relevant health promotion messages through community engagement in remote areas.
- Collaborate with local organisations to ensure coordinated access to essential services for clients.
- Identify increasing risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
About You
The successful candidate will have a strong background in trauma-informed care and a deep understanding of trauma, mental health, and social and emotional wellbeing. Experience in FDSV is highly desirable, but KWHB values employee development and is open to candidates presenting with transferable experience and new graduate applicants.
Requirements
- AHPRA registration as an Aboriginal Health Practitioner or Registered Nurse with unrestricted practice rights.
- Strong background in trauma-informed care with experience in supporting trauma survivors.
- Understanding of health and wellbeing issues for Aboriginal people in remote Northern Territory.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially with vulnerable populations.
- Strong time management, decision-making, professional boundaries, and organisational skills.
