About the Role

This Research and Development Professional role presents an opportunity to contribute to a cutting-edge project focused on enhancing biomolecule stability using ionic liquids. As part of a dynamic team, you will collaborate with esteemed experts from RMIT and Portugal to revolutionise protein studies beyond their native environments.

The project involves innovative methods, including high throughput robotics, synchrotron analysis, and Molecular Dynamics simulations, to develop novel solvents that amplify stability and solubility of biomolecules. You will be responsible for designing and executing research initiatives in alignment with the research group's objectives.

To succeed in this position, you must possess expertise in designing and synthesising ionic liquids, as well as characterising their physicochemical and thermal properties. Alternatively, you may have demonstrated ability within the fields of physical chemistry, soft matter, or biotechnology, preferably with experimental skills in ionic liquids, physico-chemical, and thermal characterisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and synthesise ionic liquids
  • Analyse and interpret results from techniques such as spectroscopic, NMR, SAXS, DSC
  • Experience or interest in high throughput techniques, including use of liquid handling robotics and collection of large data sets
  • Take initiative in solving experimental and analysis problems
  • Perform high-quality research independently and in a team environment
  • Meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities

Qualifications:

A PhD or equivalent in relevant field (Physics, Chemistry, Biochemical Engineering, Nanotechnology etc.) is required. Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.

Compensation and Benefits

This fixed-term position offers an estimated annual salary of $114,377, plus 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements. Based at the Melbourne CBD campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University.
