Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to work on generating lung cells from pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) at Murdoch Children's Research Institute. The ideal candidate will conduct experiments to understand and manipulate the development of lung epithelial, immune, and stromal cells derived from PSCs. These differentiated lung cells will be used in various in vitro assays to study respiratory diseases, including infections and chronic lung conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake discovery research concerning the development of human lung cells from pluripotent stem cells (PSCs).
  • Undertake flow cytometry, gene expression, and functional analysis of differentiated cells created in vitro.
  • Co-ordinate the provision of cells to collaborators.
  • Present data and experimental results at laboratory meetings.
  • Work to improve skill base in research productivity and methodology.
  • Assist in high-calibre, competitive research.

Required Skills and Qualifications

The successful candidate should have:

  • A relevant tertiary degree, Honours/Masters qualification in Science or related discipline.
  • An appropriate level of expertise gained from a combination of experience, training, or professional accreditation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of a range of research methodologies and their application in empirical research.
  • Experience with cell culture, preferably pluripotent stem cell culture.
  • Understanding of RNAseq analysis.
  • Familiarity with microscopy techniques, immunofluorescence labelling, and confocal analysis.
