The Course Coordinator plays a pivotal role in providing both academic and operational guidance to Higher Education personnel involved in coordinated courses. This position encompasses oversight of course management, scheduling, resource allocation, and assessment processes.

Role Responsibilities:

This position is integral to the management and operation of courses. The Course Coordinator is responsible for fostering strong relationships with both staff and students involved in the coordinated courses. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing academic and operational leadership to Higher Education staff, ensuring effective course management, scheduling, resource planning, and assessment oversight.
  • Assisting in the creation of new courses, supporting Course Advisory Committees, and contributing to research initiatives.
  • Collaborating on external articulation agreements, moderation processes, and academic benchmarking.
  • Leading and coordinating scholarly activities and professional development for Higher Education staff.
  • Participating in the annual internal audit of Higher Education operations.
  • Working alongside the Dean to meet organizational objectives, including marketing, finance, budgeting, admissions, graduation, and alumni relations.
  • Engaging in student and staff orientation and graduation events.
  • Participating in program marketing and course promotion activities as directed.
  • Preparing agendas and reports for various committees, including the Academic Board and Course Progress Committee.
  • Contributing to the development, review, and renewal of academic policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring student progress, performance, and satisfaction with academic programs.
  • Conducting performance evaluations of academic staff in collaboration with the Head of Department or Dean.
  • Providing insights on academic resource management.
  • Carrying out additional responsibilities related to the academic governance of the organization as directed.

Candidate Profile:

Qualifications and Experience:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A postgraduate qualification at least one AQF level higher than the course being coordinated, in the relevant field or discipline.
  • A minimum of five years of managerial experience.
  • A minimum of five years of teaching experience at the degree and/or postgraduate level.

Professional Development:

The Course Coordinator is expected to maintain a high level of industry relevance and a comprehensive understanding of the tertiary education sector. While there is no mandated professional development requirement, a commitment to ongoing learning, with an anticipated annual allocation of 20 hours for professional development, is expected.
