Job Description:

We are seeking a Scientific Facilities Officer to join our team at the Australian National Botanic Gardens. As a key member of our Science and Australian National Botanic Gardens Branch, you will play a critical role in supporting the operation of leading national scientific facilities across the ANBG site.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the maintenance and improvement of scientific facilities and assets across the ANBG site
  • Supporting the procurement and management of specialist scientific equipment and assets
  • Working across teams to develop and implement WHS procedures and safety checks
  • Maintaining positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across the ANBG site

You will have the opportunity to work on a range of projects, from conserving and protecting plants through systematics research, seed banking and ex situ conservation, to facilitating research and science capacity building and education.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Relevant industry experience, specifically working in scientific laboratories and maintaining scientific equipment
  • A genuine interest in supporting plant conservation, biodiversity research, and national scientific collections
  • Demonstrated experience in working in or managing scientific or plant conservation-based facilities, as well as procurement, installation, and maintenance of scientific equipment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
