Senior Biophysicist Position – Ion Channel Research
2 weeks ago
We are seeking a highly skilled postdoctoral researcher or PhD graduate to contribute to our research project focused on investigating the molecular mechanisms of potassium ion channel function and modulation.
The primary objective of this project is to gain a deeper understanding of potassium channel conduction, inactivation, and modulation mechanisms through advanced molecular dynamics methods and analysis.
Our research involves studying BK (Big-conductance K), MthK, and KcsA potassium channels using cutting-edge computational techniques.
The expected outcome of this project will be an improved description of fundamental mechanisms of ion channel function and how these proteins respond to physiological and/or pharmacological stimuli to control electrical signaling in the body.
This project offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with leading experimental researchers in cryo EM and electrophysiology and contributes to high-impact publications in top journals such as Nature.
Key Requirements:
- A PhD in physics, physical chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
- Strong research background in computation in biophysics, condensed matter physics, or physical chemistry.
- Experience in atomistic simulations of membrane protein systems, particularly ion channels, preferably potassium channels.
- Proficiency in statistical mechanical theory and molecular dynamics simulations for biophysical problems using NAMD/VMD and CHARMM.
- Familiarity with enhanced sampling and free energy methods, including Umbrella Sampling and Free Energy Perturbation.
Benefits and Expectations:
We offer a collaborative work environment, opportunities for professional growth, and excellent career possibilities for talented researchers. The successful candidate will have the chance to work autonomously while being part of a dynamic team.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
To excel in this role, you should possess strong skills in supercomputing using CPUs and GPUs, programming/scripting in a Unix environment, MD scripting for advanced simulations and analysis, good visualization skills, and high-level written and verbal communication skills.
Benefits and Expectations:
We expect the selected candidate to meet deadlines, effectively manage varying workloads, and respond to changing priorities as required. A strong commitment to teamwork, effective collaboration, and continuous learning is essential for success in this position.
