About the Police Department:

The Concord Police Department is committed to delivering top-notch police services aimed at enhancing community safety, safeguarding lives and property, and minimizing crime and its associated fears. Our mission involves fostering partnerships with the community, actively engaging in problem-solving, and enhancing the overall safety and quality of life in our city.

Responsibilities in this Role:

As a Trainee, you will be required to attend a POST-approved Police Academy. Acceptance into the Academy, which necessitates passing a POST-approved written examination, is a prerequisite for employment in this role.

This position is categorized as a non-sworn, entry-level training role. Employees in this classification are temporary, at-will employees entitled only to mandatory benefits as mandated by law, and do not hold Police Officer status while in training.

Upon successful completion of the Academy, Trainees will be promoted and will receive the annual salary and full benefits associated with a regular full-time, sworn Police Officer with the Concord Police Department.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Willingness to become proficient in self-defense techniques and the handling of firearms.
  • Ability to follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Competence in interacting courteously and effectively with the public.
  • Alignment with the City's Mission, Vision, and Values.
Comprehensive Benefits Package

They will also be enrolled in the California Public Employee Retirement System (CalPERS) at the non-sworn rate of 2% @62, along with Social Security benefits. Upon completing the academy, the incumbent will be represented by the Concord Police Officers Association and will receive an extensive benefits package, which includes:

  • Generous contributions to health, dental, and vision plans.
  • Employer-paid life insurance and contributions to retirement plans.
  • Employer-funded Employee Assistance Program and robust peer support initiatives.
Application Process
  1. A limited number of applicants who demonstrate they closely meet the qualifications for this position in terms of training, experience, education, and other job-related characteristics will be accepted to participate in the selection process. A valid POST participating agency T-Score of 50 or better is required.
  2. Candidates moving forward will undergo a thorough background examination, including a polygraph test, psychological evaluation, and physical assessment.
  3. Upon completion of testing, the Chief of Police will review the background and assessments to determine whether a formal job offer will be extended.
