About the Position

The Washington State Patrol is seeking highly skilled and dedicated individuals to join our team as Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers (CVEOs). As a CVEO, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe travel of commercial vehicles on state highways through education and enforcement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections of commercial vehicles to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Enforce laws and regulations related to weight, size, and equipment safety
  • Investigate major accidents and fatalities involving commercial vehicles
  • Assist with investigations of fuel tax evasion and drug interdiction
  • Identify stolen heavy equipment and participate in Truckers Against Trafficking programs
Requirements
  • Must be 21 years old at the time of application
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Be a United States Citizen or a Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States
  • Possess a valid non-probationary, unrestricted Washington State Driver's license
Training and Certification

Candidates selected for hire will be required to complete a phased training program designed to ensure they are trained on Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) inspection procedures and officer safety. The training program includes on-the-job training, attendance at CVEO 1 Basic Training, and supervised inspections at the assigned work site.

Working Conditions

CVEOs work in a fast-paced environment and may be required to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts. They must be willing to work in all weather conditions and be physically able to crawl under or climb around commercial vehicles to inspect for compliance with state safety laws.
