Job Summary

The State of Hawai'i is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Deputy Sheriff II to join our team. As a Deputy Sheriff II, you will be responsible for providing a full range of law enforcement and protective services within and on State controlled premises, exercising the powers and authority of a police officer, including the power of arrest.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide law enforcement and protective services within and on State controlled premises.
  • Exercise the powers and authority of a police officer, including the power of arrest.
  • Perform other law enforcement duties such as execution of court orders and subpoenas, issuing citations, making arrests, serving warrants, transporting prisoners, executive protection, and maintaining the peace.
  • Meet and deal effectively with people, including employees and the general public.
  • Read and comprehend complex material, such as rules and regulations.
  • Write clear, factual reports.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent, with satisfactory completion of courses demonstrating knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex written material, and write clear, factual reports.
  • Two years of work experience which demonstrated the following abilities:
    • Read and comprehend complex material, such as rules and regulations.
    • Write clear, factual reports.
    • Meet and deal effectively with people.
  • One year of responsible work experience in the enforcement of laws and rules which involved the exercise of all the powers and authority of a police officer, including the power of arrest.
  • Valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination, tuberculosis (TB) test, and pre-employment drug test.
Working Conditions

The Deputy Sheriff II position requires working rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call. Mandatory overtime may be required.
