Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Department of Home Affairs Full time

About Our Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Director to join our Data Business Development and Partnerships team at the Department of Home Affairs.

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with senior executive level officers in assigned domains, leading ongoing engagement with domain areas to understand business priorities, data-related challenges, and emerging needs.

You will also identify short and long-term data project opportunities and solutions to support strategic, operational, and policy objectives of domain areas, ensuring DEAC projects align with the strategic priorities of the Department as a whole.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and customer-focused individual to join our dynamic team and contribute to the Department's mission.

About Our Team

The Data and Economic Analysis Centre (DEAC) is a young and dynamic division within the Department of Home Affairs, dedicated to analysing, transforming, and using data to deliver better outcomes for the Australian public.

Our team is passionate about innovation and transformation, using data science, automation, and artificial intelligence to achieve faster and more effective solutions.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a confident communicator with a customer service mindset and excellent stakeholder management skills.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to actively listen to and interpret stakeholder needs and requirements, and translate these into tangible opportunities for DEAC to pursue.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of DEAC services and expertise
  • Build positive and enduring relationships with senior executive level officers in assigned domains
  • Lead ongoing engagement with domain areas across the Department and Australian Border Force to understand business priorities, data-related challenges, and emerging needs
  • Identify short and long-term data project opportunities and solutions to support strategic, operational, and policy objectives of domain areas
  • Ensure DEAC projects align with the strategic priorities of the Department as a whole, and contribute to better public outcomes
  • Identify opportunities to improve DEAC's service offering based on customer feedback
  • Engage with other agencies to support knowledge sharing and collaboration
  • Actively promote DEAC products and services across the Department to build awareness and demand

Additional Information

While an understanding of data, analytics, and AI is advantageous, it isn't essential. You'll have the opportunity to learn about DEAC's data services, products, and expertise from our skilled technicians.

How to Apply

Submit your application and CV through the Home Affairs' recruitment system (ourPeople) before the closing date.

As part of your application, you will be required to prepare and submit a one-page applicant response document in relation to the advertised role, outlining how your skills, knowledge, and experience will be relevant to this role, why you are interested in the role and what you can offer us, and any specific examples or achievements that demonstrate your ability to perform the role.

Eligibility

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).

Diversity and Inclusion
