Debt Collector Role

We are seeking an experienced Debt Collector to join our team. As a key member of our collections team, you will be responsible for communicating with customers to maximise the collection of outstanding debt.

Job Description:

As a Debt Collector, you will be the first point of contact for inbound/outbound calls and emails. Your primary responsibility will be to communicate with customers to maximise the collection of outstanding debt. This includes explaining the consequences of non-payment and the benefits of settling the debt. You will also negotiate payment plans or settlements that are acceptable to both the customer and the company.

You will need to record all communication and payment details in the customer database and follow up on payment arrangements to ensure they are honored. Additionally, you will be required to identify, escalate and assist in resolving debt queries and disputes. You must maintain a professional and courteous manner at all times.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Communicate with customers to maximise the collection of outstanding debt
  • Negotiate payment plans or settlements that are acceptable to both the customer and the company
  • Record all communication and payment details in the customer database
  • Follow up on payment arrangements to ensure they are honored
  • Identify, escalate and assist in resolving debt queries and disputes
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need the following skills and qualifications:

  • Relevant qualification (High school diploma or equivalent) with good academic standing
  • Experience in collections or accounts receivable is beneficial
  • Ability to liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills with proven ability to overcome obstacles and achieve results
  • Effective time management and organisational skills, sense of urgency with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to acquire knowledge and skills to successfully maintain collection KPIs
  • Strong customer service ethic with internal and external customers/staff
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communications skills
  • Good admin skills
