Child and Family Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Child and Family Support Specialist to join our team at Mission Australia. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing psychological services to children aged 3-12 years, offering face-to-face counseling, conducting thorough assessments, and leading engaging group programs.
Key Responsibilities- Provide a range of therapeutic modalities appropriate to children, including cognitive-behavioral therapy and play therapy.
- Deliver psycho-social education to parents/carers in support of child mental health intervention, promoting healthy relationships and effective communication.
- Schedule and conduct collaborative and client-driven counseling sessions with whole families or individuals, addressing complex issues and developing personalized plans.
- Collect client and program data, inputting into designated client information management systems, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
- Participate in stakeholder forums as appropriate, supporting the delivery of the program and fostering partnerships with community organizations.
- Conduct initial risk assessments of families/children, identifying potential areas of concern and developing strategies for intervention.
- Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) as a Provisional Psychologist working towards full registration in the 5+1 internship program, including engagement with an external board-approved supervisor.
- OR Registered Psychologist; or Mental Health Occupational Therapist; or Mental Health accredited Social Worker registered with AASW; or PACFA accredited counselor.
- Skills and competence in a range of therapeutic modalities appropriate to children, including cognitive-behavioral therapy and play therapy.
- Ability to administer a range of assessments of children experiencing or at risk of developing a mental health disorder, including cognitive-functioning, behavioral, and emotional assessments.
- Experience in working with families within a systemic practice model, promoting healthy relationships and effective communication.
- Experience in developing effective working relationships with a range of service stakeholders, including community organizations and healthcare providers.
- Demonstrated engagement in structured clinical supervision, ensuring ongoing professional development and growth.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple priorities.
- Capacity to work independently and manage multiple priorities, with a strong focus on delivering high-quality services.
