Job Title: Corporate Legal SpecialistJob Description:The Legal Counsel role is responsible for delivering corporate, commercial and financial services legal advice and governance guidance to all business units. This involves providing high-level expertise in the areas of contract drafting, review and negotiation, as well as statutory interpretation and advice on legislative reforms impacting the business.Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure marketing materials comply with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Provide corporate legal, commercial and governance advice to all business units.
  • Draft, review and negotiate contracts.
  • Offer insurance product advice and documentation.
  • Interpret statutes and provide advice on legislative reforms affecting the business.
  • Support corporate litigation.
  • Offer legal advice on complaints and potential disputes, including those at AFCA.
  • Deliver staff legal training.
  • Assist senior lawyers, the General Counsel and Office of the CEO.
Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualifications (LLB or equivalent) are essential.
  • A current NSW (or other Australian State) Legal Practitioner Practising Certificate is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 3 years' post-qualification experience in a mid or top-tier firm is required.
  • Experience in private practice, providing commercial legal advice, is necessary.
  • Previous experience working in an insurance and/or Australian financial services environment is beneficial.
  • A pragmatic and commercial focus, including understanding of the general insurance market, is essential.
  • Highly developed stakeholder and people management skills are required.
  • A high level of written and spoken language skills is necessary.
