**Your new role**
In the dynamic role of Prosecutions Officer within the Legal & Governance Unit, you will be instrumental in leading prosecution and enforcement actions on behalf of the Council. Reporting directly to the Senior Legal Counsel - Prosecutions, your responsibilities will encompass:
- Regular court and tribunal appearances as the advocate for Council across various regulatory matters including local laws, parking, and compliance offences.
- Oversight and case management of prosecution and enforcement matters through the legal system.
- Training development staff in investigation techniques and evidence presentation.
- Providing expert advice on compliance and enforcement matters and developing related processes and procedures.
This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to the community by ensuring adherence to local laws and regulations through meticulous legal prosecution and enforcement actions.
**What you'll need to succeed**
To excel in this role, you will need:
- A law degree or relevant tertiary qualification, with a current Practicing Certificate as a Solicitor/Barrister.
- Demonstrated experience in government enforcement and Magistrates’ Court prosecutions.
- In-depth knowledge of local government regulatory, investigation, and enforcement processes.
- Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and decision-making skills.
Your personal qualities will include decisiveness, attention to detail, analytical ability, and a strong focus on teamwork and relationship building. Flexibility and resilience are key to adapting to the varied demands of this role.
