What we do


The Community Engagement Team is a high performing team of three, including this position, that works across the Shire to plan and implement community consultations for a range of projects and topics.

We capture community sentiment, educate and create awareness among the community on a diversity of topics and initiatives.

The Community Engagement Officer reports directly to the Community Engagement Co-ordinator, and works alongside our other Community Engagement Officer, to support the delivery of timely and high quality online/digital and face to face community engagement service.


Key responsibilities of the role are:

  • Support the delivery of a best practice Community Engagement Strategy and Framework that ensures the community can participate in planning and decision making in projects that affect their local area
  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to understand their projects and identify their engagement requirements to ensure their projects are well consulted
  • Provide input into the design and implementation a variety of innovative engagement techniques and methods that facilitate the capture of varying community sentiment and views
  • Project manage community engagement initiatives and projects on time to achieve desired outcomes
  • Develop, deliver and evaluate community engagement plans for Shire projects under supervision of Community Engagement Coordinator.

Qualifications and experience:

  • A tertiary qualification in Communications, Marketing, Social Sciences, Community Development and/or another relevant discipline is desirable
  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in best practice community engagement processes and practices
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitate feedback analysis is desirable
  • Experience in local government or other complex organisations is highly regarded
