About the Role


Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Executive Officer (EO) provides a high level of advice and support to assist the Finance Unit to address the complexities of their role and to achieve the strategic and operational objectives in line with the Community Vision and Council Plan.


The position is responsible for overseeing the day to day communications and operations of the Finance Unit ensuring effective relationships and partnerships are established and maintained with Councillors, Executive, the organisation, other levels of government, and the community.

The Finance Unit consists of Accounting Services, Contracts and Procurement, Revenue Management, Property and Commercial Services and Valuations

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provision of high level, trusted and confidential executive support to the CFO
  • Responsible for managing the daytoday operations of the Office of the CFO
  • Ensure practices, systems, and procedures are in place, wellmanaged and understood
  • Oversee the Finance Unit customer experience and customer requests
  • Act as a liaison between the CFO and internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide support, research, analysis, and advice to the CFO on projects and issues
  • Coordinate the CFO's governance requirements, incl agenda and report preparation
  • Issues management including writing, editing, and distribution of content across channels
  • Keep the CFO aware of unanticipated problems, risks, and opportunities to be considered
  • Coordinate cyclical and ad hoc CFO business performance reporting
  • Ensure financial objectives are met by preparing/monitoring an annual office budget
  • Attend Council Briefings and Meetings as and when required.
  • Collaborate with other EOs to oversee and monitor crossorganisational work

About You

  • Demonstrated experience leading/developing a high performing executive office.
  • Demonstrated political acumen, tact, and diplomacy in the achievement of outcomes
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure to meet changing deadlines
  • Experience in local government or other complex and/or political organisations is desirable.
  • Tertiary qualification in Management, Business, Administration, or Local Government is preferred.
