About the role


This is a dynamic role where each day is different from the next and requires someone with exceptional abilities to manage multiple requests with tight deadlines.


As the Employee Relations Adviser in the Ethics & Investigations Team, you will be primarily responsible undertaking complex and varied workplace investigations into allegations of misconduct and/or corrupt conduct.

As well as this, you may also support the organisation by managing a range of employee issues, providing advice, coaching, as well as providing support to leaders and employees on policy matters and legislative requirements.


This position is not without its challenges, your ability to remain calm in an often adversarial, intense and fast paced environment along with your exceptional stakeholder communication skills and ability to prioritise and manage your time will ensure your success in this role.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate and case manage complex performance and behaviour matters including workplace and corrupt conduct investigations and alternative dispute techniques to deliver sustainable and effective business outcomes.
  • Provide specialist advice, support and coaching to senior and line leaders and employees on Human Resource Management (HRM) to enable best practice and compliance, particularly in areas of HRM, industrial relations and employment law.
  • Maintain a strong solutiondriven, customer focus with key stakeholders, influencing and engaging with the business to implement effective People and Culture (P&C) practices with their teams.
  • Assist to facilitate effective HRM processes which ensure that employee conditions, benefits and assistance programmes are provided
  • Manage and maintain accurate case management records, ensuring the timely and robust capture of data into relevant systems.
  • Provide education, awareness and capability development for leaders and the broader business on P&C practices and initiatives and associated legislation, including discrimination, equal opportunity and industrial relations legislation.
  • Represent Queensland Rail in forums in relation to discrimination matters, grievance management, workplace investigations and reporting.
  • Contribute to the planning processes within P&C and assist other areas with incorporating initiatives into plans and business operations.

  • Possess (or looking to gain) HR or workplacerelated investigations experience, ideally within a large Government organisation.
  • Thrive on managing multiple cases simultaneously and have a strong closeout rate.
  • Can work autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain maintain professionalism during sensitive or difficult situations and conversations.
  • Experienced having conversations with vulnerable employees and members of management.
  • The ability to maintain a high level of discretion and confidentiality.
