Banyule City Council is hiring a
Zero Carbon Implementation Lead to play a key role in the Delivery and Assets Department in supporting Council's commitment to Carbon neutrality by 2028.


The Delivery and Assets Department is responsible for providing a range of services to Council including developments and drainage, strategic asset management and planning including the development of the capital works program.

The department is also responsible for the successful delivery of the capital works program that includes roads, buildings, footpaths, bridges, shared trails and drains as well as the ongoing maintenance of Council's Buildings.


About the role:

  • Provide leadership and expertise to support the delivery and transition of major facilities, including existing leisure centres and other major community buildings, to implement Council's commitment to Carbon neutrality by 202
  • Support delivery of Council's 'Corporate Emissions Reduction Plan' and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, and proactive management of organisational risks.
  • Embed energy efficiency in Council's capital works programme for both new community buildings and major building upgrades.
  • Provide scoping support and technical advice to Project Managers for their capital works projects to ensure implementation of Council's Sustainable Building Guidelines.
  • Establish and participate in networks with industry experts and peers to facilitate shared learnings and knowledge.

Skills, experience and certificates:

  • Tertiary qualifications in electrical or mechanical engineering or equivalent. Post graduate qualifications in sustainable and energy efficient buildings or equivalent preferred.
  • Demonstrated project management experience. Project management certification advantageous.
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant legislation, guidelines and policies
  • Experience in change management and innovation, particularly in the ESD field, and influencing teams to adopt and deliver ESD outcomes as part of sustainable energy and efficient building projects
  • Sound analytical and conceptual skills and evidence of the ability to manage a variety of complex tasks concurrently under tight time constraints
  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability in managing and motivating others
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Occupational Health and Safety and Risk Management
  • Demonstrated community consultation and stakeholder management skills
  • Effectively influence and negotiate to gain agreement to proposals and initiatives.
  • Possess excellent verbal reasoning and report writing skills.
  • Use specialist expertise to improve overall organisational performance and deliver effective outcomes.
