The Opportunity

We’re seeking an accomplished leader to join our firm as the Head of Knowledge and Research (East), overseeing our Knowledge & Research (K&R) function within the region and advancing its influence across the firm. In close partnership with the Head of K&R (West), you will shape and implement our K&R strategy, guiding a high-performing team in delivering vital knowledge and research resources.

Our Knowledge team curates and manages a comprehensive repository of essential information—from legal precedents to industry reports—ensuring our professionals have timely access to the insights that drive our success. Our Research team supports the firm’s strategic objectives by providing in-depth, accurate research that informs key legal and business decisions, enabling our firm to remain at the forefront of industry knowledge.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership of Knowledge & Research (K&R) Function

Provide strategic leadership to maintain a high-performing, credible K&R function. Drive continuous improvement by staying informed of industry best practices and emerging technological advancements.

Development and Execution of K&R Strategy: Collaborate with the Head of K&R (West) and senior leadership to design and implement a forward-looking K&R strategy that aligns with the firm’s broader goals. Foster engagement across the firm to ensure full realization of the value of K&R investments.

Team Leadership and Performance Management: Lead the K&R team to maximize the firm’s intellectual capital, manage third-party content providers, and deliver reliable, high-quality research services. Oversee strategic vendor relationships, ensure coordination with business services groups, and manage team performance, including budget oversight.

People Leadership and Development: Empower team leaders to excel within their areas of responsibility, foster collaboration across Knowledge & Research teams, and promote a high-performance culture. Ensure team capabilities align with the evolving needs of the firm through effective resource planning and talent development.

To be successful in this position you will have:

Legal qualifications or equivalent in a relevant discipline. Extensive leadership experience at senior levels (at least 10 years). Proven experience in initiating activities that contribute to meeting an organisation’s strategic objectives and successful management of change related to such activities. High calibre communication and influencing skills. High autonomy and demonstrated ability to exercise judgement in when to collaborate, escalate or directly intervene to anticipate opportunities and solve problems. Demonstrated ability to innovate and respond to changes in a sophisticated market. Demonstrated commercial acumen.
