Creating exceptional experiences is at the heart of everything we do for our patients, their families, and our people across our specialised services within maternity, neonatal and women’s health. Our Caseload Program currently includes a low-risk stream, a stream for Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander women, babies and families, as well as a stream for women/ families experiencing social inequity. The Caseload Program is currently made up of 5 teams which have between 3-5 midwives. In the Caseload Program will expand to increase capacity, which include a new homebirth option for eligible women.
About the Role
The Associate Midwifery Unit Manager – Caseload (Caseload AMUM) is a new leadership role that will support the Caseload Midwifery Unit Manager (MUM) and the Caseload team to ensure that the highest possible standard of care is provided to every patient. In collaboration with the MUM, you will maintain the efficient and effective operational management and coordination of our caseload program, overseeing key operational aspects of the service such as rosters, triage/allocations, capacity/demand, etc.
You will support the MUM to train, supervise, develop, and inspire the caseload midwifery team and provide a physically and psychologically safe workplace. In the absence of the MUM, you will assume the responsibilities of the MUM ensuring safe and effective operation of the caseload service.
A regular day will see you:
Provide evidence-based care and manage a reduced caseload of women in an on call capacityProvide support and guidance, in collaboration with the MUM, to the caseload teamsRole modelling the values of the Women’s and exemplifying patient-centred careComplete assessment of the health status of caseload women by interview and observationAssess, plan, develop, implement, document and evaluate midwifery and neonatal care in partnership with the women and other health care professionals.Support the Caseload MUM in the expansion of the Caseload Program – specifically the new homebirth service due to launch in Provide health education for women, families, and other family supportsAbout you
You will be a motivated midwife with an interest in leadership, with advanced clinical skills/ experience and a commitment to provide outstanding midwifery support to women, babies and their families. Your recent caseload/private practice experience in an on-call capacity along with your previous leadership experience will support your succession in this role.
To be successful within this role you will be able to demonstrate the following skills:
Providing care across the continuum of midwifery care including routine antenatal visits, antenatal assessment and triage, intra-partum and postnatal careDemonstrate the capability to work with a high level of autonomyExperience and interest in being a midwifery leaderWell-developed interpersonal skills including communication, negotiation, advocacy and conflict resolution skillsAn in-depth understanding of the social determinants of healthDemonstrated commitment to the provision of midwifery care in a continuity of carer model, of which focuses on the woman and her familyExperience in IVC insertion, applying Fetal Scalp Electrodes (FSE), Speculum examination and examination of the newbornPerineal suturing (or willingness to achieve within 6 months of commencement)Additional Key Requirements for the role include:
Registration with AHPRA as a MidwifeThree years clinical Midwifery experience across the continuum of midwifery careCommitment to providing care from a Caseload and Team Care philosophy, and an understanding and acceptance of the rostering and on call arrangements related to the Caseload modelWillingness to participate in quality and/or research projects to improve the standard of midwifery careCurrent Australian Driver's licence and access to a vehicleOur benefits
