The Role

The Directorate of Complaints and Resolution is looking for a dynamic individual to fill the role of Policy, Learning and Development Officer. You will work within a broader team to ensure Defence Policy, tools and guides provide effective support to enable early intervention and prevention of complaint escalation and unacceptable workplace behaviours and assist with resolving workplace issues at the earliest opportunity and at the lowest level.

You will exercise a considerable degree of independence, sound judgement and decision making to provide expert advice, influence reform, and education as it relates to complaint handling. You will be committed to providing great customer service, contribute to building organisational capability through education; proactively engage and communicate with stakeholders to identify, respond and provide advice in complex complaint situations.

About our Team
The Directorate of Complaints and Resolution is responsible for the management of APS Review of Actions, alternative dispute resolution and unacceptable behaviour policy, reporting and associated training. Complaints and Resolution also coordinates Defence responses to external complaint agencies. The roles within the Directorate of Complaints and Resolution provide a frontline dispute resolution service, deliver expert advice, conduct APS employment reviews through the Review of Action process, develop policy documents and education to support complaint handling principles. The Directorate works closely with the wider HR Services Branch to empower Defence personnel with sustainable tools and resources to effectively manage disputes and provide expert policy advice to resolve issues at the lowest appropriate level.

Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will have a background in either HR, administrative review, complaint handling, mediation, coaching, training or policy development. 

On-going success in this role will be characterised by your ability to:

Be able to work in a fast-paced operational environment and the ability to meet tight deadlines, while managing competing priorities is essential. You will have excellent written and verbal communication. Briefing through verbal and written communications is required. The delivery of face-to-face or online workshops may be required. Demonstrated critical analysis and reasoning skills to prepare considered outcomes for internal and external complaints. Collaborate, innovate and influence to implement creative, optimal solutions to support workplace behaviour management and conflict resolution options. Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, discretion and the highest ethical standards. Have superior problem solving and time management skills and demonstrate resilience.
