The position of Business Development Manager (Melbourne) is a member of the Business Development Team undertaking business development activities with the primary objective of maximising the conversion of leads to secure business events from the Melbourne market into Adelaide, South Australia.

A business event is a conference, meeting, convention, exhibition or corporate incentive.

This is a full-time role based at the Business Events Adelaide office in the Adelaide CBD.

POSITION OBJECTIVES

  • To assist with the planning and implementation of the business development activity plan to attract new and repeat business to Adelaide.
  • To educate and assist the business events market (both industry and event organisers) ensuring they are aware of the benefits of convening a business event in Adelaide and the services provided by Business Events Adelaide to guide them through every step of the bid process.
  • To achieve, in conjunction with the team, identified sales goals and activities within the allocated budget based on:

      i) Economic benefit to the state.

      ii) Number of business events opportunities sourced, compiled, and won.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Develop and work leads to bid and secure business events aligned to the key economic sectors of the state.
  • Identify, recruit and encourage local people affiliated with state, regional, national and international organisations to hold business events in Adelaide.
  • Create and implement agreed specific business development and promotion initiatives to attract business events to Adelaide.
  • Manage and maintain client database.
  • Build strong rapport with key individuals and organisations within the business events market.
  • Where appropriate, accompany clients to meetings with member hotels, accommodation houses and venues as well as initiate and document introductions personally between clients and members.
  • Organise and participate in sales visits / site inspections / familiarisations / educational seminars within budget as scheduled in the activity schedule.
  • Coordinate with the Director – National Bidding and Events the effective servicing of groups scheduled or interested in meeting in Adelaide to ensure the success of the activity.
  • Attend interstate sales calls, trade shows and other promotional activities on behalf of Business Events Adelaide.
  • Undertake intrastate, interstate and international travel as required.
  • Enter all activity in the CRM and assist in monthly Board reporting.
  • Manage all allocated projects within budget.
  • Maintain business event data for use within Business Events Adelaide and for media coverage.
  • Attend Business Events Adelaide functions as required.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as requested by the CEO.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant tertiary education, or equivalent experience.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Demonstrated experience in a sales environment.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to be self-motivated and achieve measurable outcomes underpinned by a robust, ‘can-do’ approach.
  • Ability to report on own activities and pipeline effectively
  • Ability to put forward own ideas and innovations as part of the team approach.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective organisational and time management skills including ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Sound computer skills in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint programs, the Internet and database systems.
