Business Development and Event Manager

We are the peak independent body for South Australia's business events, driving economic growth through successful conferences, meetings, exhibitions, corporate incentives, and special events.
Our team works with interstate and international organisers to provide valuable guidance and facilitate bespoke, end-to-end business event results.
Job OverviewThis full-time role is a key member of our Business Development Team, undertaking business development activities to maximise the conversion of leads into secure business events in Adelaide and South Australia.
The position involves planning and implementing business development activity plans, educating and assisting the business events market on the benefits of convening events in Adelaide, and achieving sales goals within allocated budgets.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and work leads to bid and secure business events aligned to key economic sectors of the state.
- Identify, recruit, and encourage local people affiliated with state, regional, national, and international organisations to hold business events in Adelaide.
- Create and implement specific business development and promotion initiatives to attract business events to Adelaide.
- Manage and maintain client databases.
- BUILD STRONG RAPPORT WITH KEY INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANISATIONS WITHIN THE BUSINESS EVENTS MARKET.
- Accompany clients to meetings with member hotels, accommodation houses, and venues, and initiate introductions between clients and members.
- Organise and participate in sales visits, site inspections, familiarisations, educational seminars, and trade shows within budget as scheduled.
- Coordinate with the Director – National Bidding and Events the effective servicing of groups scheduled or interested in meeting in Adelaide.
- Attend interstate sales calls, trade shows, and other promotional activities on behalf of Business Events Adelaide.
- Undertake intrastate, interstate, and international travel as required.
- Enter all activity in the CRM and assist in monthly Board reporting.
- Manage allocated projects within budget.
- Maintain business event data for use within Business Events Adelaide and for media coverage.
- Attend Business Events Adelaide functions as required.
- Relevant tertiary education or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrated experience in a sales environment.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to be self-motivated and achieve measurable outcomes underpinned by a robust, 'can-do' approach.
- Ability to report on own activities and pipeline effectively.
- Ability to put forward own ideas and innovations as part of the team approach.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective organisational and time management skills, including ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- SOUND COMPUTER SKILLS IN MICROSOFT WORD, OUTLOOK, EXCEL, POWERPOINT PROGRAMS, THE INTERNET, AND DATABASE SYSTEMS.

The estimated annual salary for this position is AU$80,000 - AU$120,000 depending on experience, based on a full-time schedule of 38 hours per week. The salary range includes a base salary of $80,000 and an additional allowance for responsibilities and achievements that may reach up to $40,000 per year.
