ASI's Asia Pacific regional office in Sydney leads multi-donor business growth and project delivery across the region. The role focuses on expanding ASI's multi-donor portfolio in Southeast Asia and the Pacific, delivering high-quality proposals and tenders, and developing strategic partnerships and thought leadership within ASI's Asia Pacific portfolio, with emphasis on DFAT and other major donors.
The successful candidate will monitor opportunities, support BD efforts, manage information, and coordinate with ASI's Asia Pacific team and the wider global organization to drive business growth and program delivery.
Key Relationships
Internal: Director of Asia Pacific; Asia-Pacific BD team; Sydney office and regional teams; BD Teams in London HQ, India, and other locations; HQ Central Support Teams (Finance, Legal, Commercial)
External: DFAT and other donor staff; prime and subcontracting partners; key consultants and associates
Key Tasks
Drive business growth across the Asia-Pacific region and manage the bid process from inception to submission, focusing on DFAT, FCDO, EU, MDBs, and other major donors; identify additional strategic funding opportunities
Lead and support BD activities across Asia-Pacific, including relationship-building with clients and regular engagement to understand needs and identify future opportunities
Identify and track emerging opportunities, monitor donor pipelines, and assess competitiveness and winnability of pursuits
Identify and recruit consultants and advisers to resource program teams; develop networks in priority sectors and geographies
Nurture strategic partnerships to form consortium arrangements with complementary expertise
Lead and support bid writing, develop technical and financial proposals, establish prime and subcontracting arrangements, and ensure timely, compliant submissions
Support cross-business coordination to promote a joined-up BD approach within ASI, collaborating with in-house technical practices and donor-focused teams at ASI's global and regional hubs
Support thought leadership, knowledge management, and outward engagement with clients and stakeholders; produce targeted publications and communications to showcase ASI's expertise
Maintain associate databases and knowledge repositories to support timely BD activities
Job Requirements
Knowledge & Qualification:
Undergraduate degree in a relevant subject; Master's degree preferred, with preference for international development, international affairs, or related fields.
Experience:
Demonstrated experience writing bids for DFAT; strong bid-writing capabilities; experience leading DFAT tenders is an advantage
Bid management experience and understanding of DFAT and other donor procurement cycles; experience conceiving, developing, and delivering BD strategies is advantageous
Understanding of DFAT and ASI's core Asia-Pacific clients (FCDO, EU, ADB); MDB experience is advantageous
Significant international development experience, preferably in Asia-Pacific, with challenges such as climate change, sustainable infrastructure, gender and social inclusion, governance
Consulting experience in international development, governmental, or multilateral sectors; relevant experience with donors may be considered in lieu of direct consulting experience
Professional English proficiency; strong oral and written communication; competence with Microsoft products
Ability to build credible client relationships with multicultural stakeholders; strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to work under pressure
Excellent written and oral communication, including report writing and presenting information
Willingness to travel and tackle challenging problems; pragmatic and resourceful attitude with decision-making confidence
