
Policy Officer, Advancing Traditional Owner Rights

An exciting and unique opportunity exists for a talented and passionate individual to join the new Advancing Traditional Owner Rights Branch as Policy Officer, Advancing Traditional Owner Rights to contribute to the ground-breaking work in the areas of truth, treaty, self-determination and cultural rights.
The responsibilities of the Advancing Traditional Owner Rights branch include leading redress and self-determination policy development, ensuring alignment between the Traditional Owner Settlement Act 2010 (Vic) and future Interim Treaty offers as well as undertaking shadow policy work on whole of Victorian Government programs and reforms impacting Traditional Owners.
As the Policy Officer, Advancing Traditional Owner Rights you will contribute to shadow policy analysis and engagement on Victorian Government programs and reforms impacting Traditional Owners to ensure Traditional Owner rights and interests are fully understood and considered. You will also develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with other branches within FPSR and DPC, Traditional Owners and their representatives, as well as stakeholders within and outside of government to assist the work of the Advancing Traditional Owner Rights branch.
About you
- Demonstrated ability to engage in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner with Aboriginal organisations and communities
- Written communication skills, including the ability to prepare and edit complex briefs, correspondence, submissions and reports
- Developed interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with people at all levels and from diverse backgrounds and organisations
Please note that a relevant tertiary qualification in law, public policy, humanities or related field and/or equivalent relevant experience and knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal affairs policy, legislation and frameworks relevant to Victoria are desirable for this role.
