
Traditional Owner Policy Specialist

The Traditional Owner Agreement Unit has a new role for someone with an interest in policy that directly benefits Victorian Traditional Owners.
This role will support the implementation of the Government's policy reform commitments and prepare detailed briefings for intergovernmental forum and related working groups.
You will be part of a high performing, flexible and supporting team contributing to the improvement of productive relationships between the government and Traditional Owners.
This position offers a chance to contribute to self-determination, accountability to Traditional Owners, and opportunities to strengthen First Peoples' connection to Country.
Australia is home to over 65,000 Indigenous people. However, many Aboriginal communities are still struggling due to lack of proper recognition and representation.
To address this issue, we need experienced professionals who can develop and implement effective policies that benefit Traditional Owners.
- Developing and implementing policy reforms that improve outcomes for Traditional Owners;
- Preparing detailed briefings for intergovernmental forums and related working groups;
- Collaborating with managers and staff to achieve better outcomes for Traditional Owners;

**Required Skills and Qualifications:**
- Demonstrated broad understanding of the Victorian Government's (including DEECA) policy and legislative framework pertaining to Victoria's Aboriginal communities;
- Experience and knowledge in the development and delivery of policy, programs and projects; use of these skills in the context of Traditional Owner policy development and/or implementation is advantageous;
- Tertiary qualification(s) including post-graduate qualification(s) in law, public policy, natural resource or environmental management or similar is desirable.
