Primary objective

To coordinate and manage Aboriginal early careers programs and initiatives, promoting pathways for Aboriginal individuals to achieve

meaningful employment and professional development while ensuring cultural sensitivity, equity, and alignment with organisational goals.

Context statement

The Aboriginal Health, Engagement and Workforce Division (AHWED) works to ensure that health services are inclusive of Aboriginal

cultural identity and are free from discriminatory practices. The division respectfully works with Aboriginal communities to co-design

healthcare services, facilitate cultural safety, strengthen the Aboriginal workforce and foster innovation in Aboriginal health.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Coordinate the Aboriginal Cadetship Program.

2. Act as the Early Career Coordinator for Aboriginal participants in the Department of Health, collaborating with the Department of

Corporate and Digital Development to implement programs.

3. Develop and implement workforce attraction and retention programs for participants in Aboriginal early career's programs.

4. Work closely with Department of Health managers and supervisors to promote and supply the uptake of Aboriginal participants in

Early Career programs.

5. Provide case management, guidance, and mentoring to Aboriginal cadets and trainees, ensuring their professional and personal

development.

6. Follow defined service quality standards, Work Health and Safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

7. Promote a positive workplace culture by demonstrating exemplary leadership and consistently modelling professional behaviour.

8. Administration and management of e-recruit functions and other workforce tasks as directed.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated experience in coordinating and administering programs, including the ability to manage multiple initiatives such as

Aboriginal cadetship and Aboriginal early careers programs.

2. Proven ability to collaborate with stakeholders and effectively communicate with all levels of staff within a diverse work environment

to support program implementation, increase participation, and advocate for program participants.

3. Strong organisational and administrative skills with the ability to manage programs, track progress, work independently, and take

initiative.

4. Strong understanding of Aboriginal cultures, values, and practices, with experience supporting and mentoring Aboriginal cadets and

trainees in culturally appropriate ways.

5. Understanding of the challenges and issues affecting the employment and retention of Aboriginal people, with high level of cultural

competence and the ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.

1. Tertiary qualification relevant to the position.

Department of Health has a Smoke Free Policy. Staff are not permitted to smoke anywhere on Departmental premises, facilities, or vehicle

nor whilst working off-site. The successful applicant will be required to obtain a current Working with Children Clearance Notice (Ochre

Card). The position will require travel in remote communities, on unsealed roads in 4WD vehicles and light aircraft, including overnight

stays.
