Primary objective

The Intensive Care Unit Equipment Officer is responsible for managing and maintaining equipment and consumable supplies within

the Intensive Care Unit. The role works collaboratively with medical, nursing, administrative, allied health, and housekeeping staff

to ensure patient safety and to support the effective and efficient delivery of patient care.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Maintain adequate consumable supplies and prepare and assemble ICU equipment to support the provision of critical care.

2. Collaborate with the Biomedical Engineering Department and external agencies to maintain, service, and coordinate repairs of

equipment.

3. Provide leadership, guidance, and support to staff, acting as a resource in the management of equipment and consumables

supplies.

4. Supervise, lead, and actively support the Patient Care Assistant team, fostering accountability, professional development, and

high-quality patient care

6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies, and procedures relating to the work being undertaken

to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated knowledge of the operation and care of complex medical and intensive care equipment, along with an

understanding of clinical priorities, workflows, and ICU processes

2. Demonstrated organisational and management skills, including the ability to effectively prioritise workloads, along with sound

knowledge of infection control principles and relevant Healthcare and WHS Standards.

3. Demonstrated effective communication and leadership skills to achieve positive outcomes, including the ability to maintain

productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

4. Ability to work effectively in a high-acuity environment, manage the demands of a stressful workplace, and operate

autonomously while seeking guidance when necessary.

5. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and to meet the physical demands of the position.

6. Sound IT and data management skills, with the ability to collect, analyse, and report data related to ICU consumables and

equipment.

Desirable

1. Qualifications in leadership and management and/or inventory management.

2. Certificate III in Health Services Assistance or equivalent
