Primary objective
Provide technical support and expertise to the implementation of the Management Program for the Saltwater Crocodile
(Crocodylus porosus) in the Northern Territory of Australia.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist with planning (including liaising with landholders and other stakeholders) and conducting crocodile population
surveys and field research.
2. Identify, purchase, operate and maintain equipment for population monitoring surveys and field research.
3. Under direction, assist with data collection, entry and management.
4. Under direction, assist with regulation and compliance activities associated with management of saltwater crocodiles,
including processing permits and field-based audits.
5. Assisting with administrative duties including record keeping and preparation of reports.
6. If required, provide technical support for the Division's broader work program.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to plan and organise field-based projects with minimal supervision.
2. Proven ability to operate and maintain vehicles, small vessels and wildlife survey equipment.
3. Proven ability to work in remote field locations in marine/aquatic environments (e.g. tidal rivers) and to meet WHS
guidelines.
4. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, including written and oral skills.
5. Demonstrated experience in collecting and managing data.
- Experience in liaising effectively with Aboriginal communities, government agencies, industry and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a small team.
- Current Australian Driver's Licence.
Desirable
1. Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) Coxswain Grade 2 or 3 (or ability to acquire).
- Knowledge of crocodile biology and/or management.
- Skills using Geographic Information System (GIS) software and other software such as EXCEL.
- Current first aid certificate (or ability to acquire).
- Experience with using manual 4WD vehicles and working in remote locations.
