The Product Manager - Payments Strategy and Innovation is responsible for shaping and executing the Bank's payments product vision and strategic roadmap. This role combines strategic thinking, customer insights, market knowledge to evolve and modernise our existing payments portfolio and specifically in future state-capabilities.

  • We support our staff to grow their careers through learning and development and an organisational culture where we reward and recognise innovation and values, not long hours.
  • We are committed to building an inclusive culture and a diverse workforce that reflects the Australian community.
  • We care for a conservation reserve – where we work with key partner organisations to protect threatened species and involve staff in conservation.

What you will be doing

  • Lead the strategic roadmap for payments products and services, aligning with the Bank's digital and innovation objectives.
  • Identify and evaluate emerging payment technologies (e.g. real-time payments, PayTo, digital wallets) to drive growth and innovation.
  • Analyse market trends, competitor activity, and industry benchmarks to inform strategic decisions and maintain competitiveness.

  • Engage and manage relationships with payment solution providers to ensure alignment with strategic goals and member needs.
  • Execute effective vendor management to optimise service delivery and value for the Bank and its members.
  • Evaluate and pilot new technologies and partnerships to expand the Bank's payment capabilities.
  • Lead proof-of-concept and pilot projects to test and validate innovative payment solutions.
  • Manage and prioritise the payments product roadmap, ensuring timely delivery and measurable outcomes.

What you will bring

  • Demonstrated experience in payment strategy execution, including roadmap delivery, innovation initiatives, and market benchmarking.
  • Sound knowledge of the payments landscape, including regulatory requirements, emerging trends, and associated risks such as fraud.
  • Proven product management experience, ideally within payments, with a track record of leading strategic initiatives and delivering measurable outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make informed recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective engagement with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Agile and adaptable mindset, with a proactive, performance-oriented approach and a passion for continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, finance, technology, or a related field, supporting your expertise in payments and digital transformation.
  • Commitment to Bank Australia's purpose, aspiration, values and brand as well as the B Corp ethos.
