Primary objective

Provide high-level management of regulation and compliance activity to improve education outcomes for Northern Territory

students.

Context statement

The Education Regulation team within Quality Standards and Regulation branch, works with Northern Territory (NT) and

Australian Government departments, schools, and external stakeholders and agencies to regulate non-government schools,

international education, home education, eligible options programs, and student attendance and participation.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Contribute to the leadership of regulation and compliance work across the branch in line with legislation and policy.

2. Provide high-level leadership of projects and programs across the different work areas including data systems,

management, and monitoring of compliance.

  1. Consult with Commonwealth, inter-jurisdictional, and NT Government agencies and external stakeholders, including

schools, peak bodies, and the general public to ensure effective program management and outcomes.

4. Manage policy, guidelines, procedures, resource development and reviews across the work unit.

5. Represent and promote the interests of the department at a range of committees and multi-agency meetings at the local

and national levels.

6. Coordinate, collate and analyse statistical, financial, and other data to inform regulatory and compliance work and

improvement strategies.

7. Provide high-level advice to the director and informed and accurately written communications to stakeholders, briefings,

ministerial correspondence, and Cabinet submissions.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Highly developed expertise and successful experience in working with legislation and policy, demonstrating strong

conceptual and analytical skills to provide high-level advice.

  1. Successful experience in operational program management including data and information, monitoring and reporting and

human resource management.

3. Excellent oral and written communication skills and experience in preparing briefings on complex matters for a wide

range of audiences in plain English.

4. High-level knowledge and understanding of contemporary and strategic regulation and compliance issues and ability to

contribute to strategic business planning and improvement agendas.

5. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships within diverse internal and external

stakeholder contexts.
