Primary objective

Provide expert advice on Vocational Education and Training (VET) performance and reporting. Oversee evaluation,

statistical analysis, and data collection to support informed decision-making in Vocational Education and Training planning,

funding, service delivery, and reporting across the Territory, with a strong focus on quality and continuous improvement.

Context statement

The Skills NT division's function is to contribute to a capable and skilled workforce that meets the Territory's current and

future needs by overseeing the adult vocational education and training sector in the Northern Territory. Skills NT delivers a

range of training programs that are responsive and aligned to the needs of the Territory's business community and meet

the Territory's current and future skills shortages.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Manage and maintain key national VET statistical data collections and associated information systems in a dynamic and

evolving environment.

2. Develop strong partnerships with key stakeholders and provide strategic advice at both Territory and national levels on

reporting and funding for VET initiatives and programs.

3. Conduct high-level analysis of VET sector performance and outcomes in the Northern Territory to support auditing and

reporting at local and national levels.

4. Contribute to briefings and correspondence including Ministerials, Legislative Assembly briefings, Cabinet Submissions,

speech notes and research papers.

5. Provide strategic direction and policy advice on training provider performance, contributing to the development and

management of VET delivery and related program budgets.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated expertise in developing and managing statistical frameworks and systems, with the ability to establish

relevant performance indicators for measurement and benchmarking.

2. Proven leadership and management skills and the ability to drive strategic outcomes.

3. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to consult, negotiate, and effectively

represent the Northern Territory in local and national forums.

4. Advanced conceptual and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex datasets and provide meaningful insights.

5. In-depth understanding of vocational education and training issues at both National and Territory levels.

6. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders and work effectively with

people from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
