Primary objective

This position is responsible for assisting the Director of the Resolution Unit with leading strategy and the overall day-to-day operations of

the Resolution Unit.

Context statement

The Resolution team sits within the Quality Standards and Regulation division and has oversight of the department's complaint resolution

framework and internal review process. The team supports and coordinates the department's response to matters referred from external

entities, including the Independent Commissioner Against Corruption, Anti-Discrimination Commission, Children's Commissioner and the

Northern Territory Ombudsman.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Conduct complex assessments, research, reviews, and inquiries relating to complaints, referrals and identified trends and risks.

2. Provide strategic and expert advice on complaint handling to support the effective application of department policies and frameworks

relating to complaint resolution and risk management.

  1. Develop and refine policies, procedures, operational processes and training materials to support effective and efficient complaint

handling and reviews across the department.

4. Prepare and provide oversight to team preparation of reports, recommendations, memoranda and other correspondence for internal

and external audiences.

5. Build and maintain productive partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and manage challenging relationships.

6. Oversee the collection, review and provision of material for legal proceedings, national schemes and in response to requests for

information from external entities, including handling collection and reviews for complex or sensitive matters.

7. Supervise and support team members to ensure effective performance and achievement of business objectives.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Extensive experience in interpreting and applying legislation, standards, policies and guidelines in a complex context.

2. Demonstrated persistence when working through challenges and controversial issues, constructively and respectfully.

  1. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships at all levels.

  2. Proven ability to objectively and systematically analyse information to form evidence-based conclusions and develop relevant

recommendations.

  1. Proven ability to communicate with confidence and explain complex concepts clearly, to diverse audiences, in a range of styles and

formats.

  1. Evidence of high standards of ethical and professional conduct and the ability to recognise and respond appropriately to confidential

and sensitive matters.

7. Ability to take initiative and lead teams to achieve outcomes and adapt quickly to changes in priorities.

8. Experience in the development, implementation and monitoring of business unit plans, strategies and goals.

Desirable

1. Formal qualifications in relevant discipline e.g., law, investigations, public administration, human services or other.
