Primary objective

Develop and manage strategic projects to support evidence-based approaches to early intervention and re-engagement of children and

youth in education and training through the provision of effective internal and cross agency partnerships, high-level policy and strategic

advice, leadership and effective consultation with stakeholders.

Context statement

Engagement Programs, Policy and Performance is responsible for developing strategic, evidence-based, and data-informed initiatives to

re-engage vulnerable, disengaged and at-risk children and young people with place-based approaches that are culturally appropriate, and

trauma informed.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Lead and manage departmental and cross agency projects and strategic initiatives relating to youth engagement, including regular

reporting, data analysis and the provision of strategic advice to internal and external senior stakeholders.

  1. Lead the planning and development and policy advice regarding flexible education programs.

  2. Provide high-level strategic policy and program advice to the senior management on evidence-based approaches to support early

intervention and re-engagement of children and young people in education and training.

4. Provide support and coordination for key governance, quality assurance, risk, and service management standards and processes for

key projects, flexible education programs and enrolment and attendance policy reform initiatives.

  1. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  2. Initiate, prepare and coordinate high-level documentation, including interagency correspondence, ministerial documents, cabinet

submissions and communication materials, including presentations.

7. Provide constructive leadership, direction and support to staff and actively participate as a senior member of the team, contributing

innovative ideas and solutions to all aspects of business.

8. Ensure the development and maintenance of effective reporting systems in all areas of responsibility and identify opportunities to

improve coordination, efficiencies, and effectiveness across all elements of the team.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Proven experience leading all aspects of complex multi-pronged projects, preferably across government agencies or large

organisations, including education, youth justice or allied health settings.

  1. Proven experience developing strategies and policies that address complex issues and the ability to articulate these into verbal and

written recommendations.

  1. High level written communication skills with proven ability to develop a range of government documents for internal and external

stakeholders, including proven experience in the development of executive correspondence.

  1. Proven high-level stakeholder engagement and consultation skills with a wide range of organisations, including schools, government

agencies and community-based organisations.

  1. Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills and proven ability to influence others.

  2. Proven ability to provide leadership and work effectively in an evolving environment whilst supporting and mentoring staff.

  3. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and consult with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Desirable

1. Relevant tertiary qualification e.g. in Education, Business, Public Policy etc
