The opportunity

Working within the Supportive Care division, reporting to the Cancer Support Services Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring a positive client experience and providing leadership and coordination of the support and navigation contact centre team and associated programs. The role ensures effective, efficient, and safe service provision, in line with National and Cancer Council WA (CCWA) policies, procedures and frameworks. This position provides support to the Cancer Support Services Manager in developing and implementing operational plans, program reviews and improvements, and potential new programs and services to meet the needs of people impacted by cancer.

Based in Subiaco, this position is part-time (0.8 FTE).

What you'll be doing:


• Providing coordination of services and programs within the position's remit in accordance with CCWA's vision, purpose, values and strategic objectives.


• In collaboration with the CSS Manager, contributing to the strategic planning of supportive care and navigation services and actively contribute to the National sub-committee and associated working groups.


• Promoting CCWA's supportive care services to external stakeholders


• Assisting the CSS Manager to undertake and organise development of staff to ensure that all staff are adequately trained.


• Contributing to and coordinating quality assurance and continuous improvement activities.


• Preparing and producing accurate and concise reports and plans in a timely manner at the request of the CSS Manager.


• Maintain and develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will need:


• Tertiary qualification in a health-related field (e.g. nursing, allied health, social work)


• Post-graduate counselling or communication skills training and experience is desirable


• Extensive experience working in and knowledge of oncology and cancer supportive care is desirable


• Demonstrated ability to motivate staff, implement strategies for improvement, and appropriately manage escalated issues.


• Experience in client psychosocial assessment over the telephone with appropriate problem-solving and analytical skills to provide immediate support and appropriate referral in relation to client need


• Knowledge about cancer prevention, screening, risk factors and early detection


• Experience in managing a contact centre/support and information line is desirable


• Highly developed communication skills, including public speaking and report writing


• Strong leadership, strategic and problem-solving skills


• Well-developed analytical skills with the ability to analyse data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions


• Experience in building and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders


• High level organisational skills and able to work under pressure with demonstrated ability to lead/work on multiple projects and meet deadlines


• Proficient in Microsoft Office products


• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the values of Cancer Council WA
