We are seeking a proactive and skilled Environmental professional eager to make a meaningful impact in a community-focused setting. As an Environmental Coordinator at Busselton Water, you will support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our environmental management systems and sustainability initiatives.
To be considered for this important position, you should possess a tertiary qualification in a relevant field (or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience).
About the Role:
Reporting to the General Manager Operations and Planning, you will be responsible for the EMS assurance cycle, lead audits to closure, keep registers current, and guide leaders with clear, practical advice. You will also coordinate water-efficiency projects, track performance, and partner with site teams to lift compliance and environmental outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and improve the Environmental Management System (EMS) through regular reviews and audits.
- Ensure compliance with regulations and advise on best practices for sustainability.
- Investigate and recommend improvements to processes, products, and projects to meet environmental standards.
- Coordinate corrective and preventative actions to address environmental non-conformities.
- Track regulatory obligations and maintain accurate compliance registers.
- Monitor contractor environmental performance and report key data to leadership.
- Communicate environmental performance metrics and contribute to Board reporting.
- Advise on climate change initiatives and oversee water efficiency management plans.
- Manage environmental permits, licences, and statutory reporting requirements.
- Lead water use efficiency projects and support carbon reporting for strategic plans.
- Promote collaboration across teams and provide staff guidance on environmental matters.
- Conduct training analysis to address environmental and sustainability needs.
- Contribute to policy development, continuous improvement, and emergency response testing regimes.
What We Are Looking For:
- Relevant degree or equivalent experience.
- Advanced computer literacy and confidence in creating, maintaining and improving documentation, reporting and systems.
- Build environmental awareness through training initiatives.
- Lead and support internal/external audits and drive continuous improvement programs.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and build productive relationships.
- Proven experience in Environmental Science to deliver on project scopes, including EMS delivery and coordination.
- Understanding of chemical processes involved with the management of terrestrial and marine aquatic ecosystems, as well as nutrients in agricultural, industrial, and domestic systems.
- Fluent knowledge of statutory requirements and best practice standards of The Environmental Protection Act 1986 and Environmental Protection Amendment Act 2020.
- Current Australian driver's licence.
