We are looking for a Sous Chef to join our vibrant and energetic team at Rock Sugar in South Yarra 3141. For the past 9 years Rock Sugar has been a sought-after venue for local diners and interstate visitors and proving to be a popular destination for private functions and hens parties. Rock Sugar is known for its delicious Thai fusion cuisine and showcasing Thai flavours in every dish.

Remuneration will range from $75,000 - $80,000 per annum (depending on the candidate) plus superannuation.

About the Opportunity:

We are looking for a Sous Chef to join our kitchen team to create Thai fusion dishes for our customers.

As the Sous Chef you will be accountable for delivering delicious and consistent food for our customers. You will also be responsible for supervising junior kitchen staff and contributing to menu design.

Key Responsibilities:

  • All aspects of food preparation, presentation, and service
  • Ensuring consistently high standards of food presentation and quality are maintained.
  • Working with the kitchen team to ensure safe work practices are implemented at all times.
  • Strong understanding of dietary requirements and prepare food to meet special dietary requirements
  • Regulate cooking temperatures of ovens, grills, fryers and other cooking equipment.
  • Check all food is stored and handled as per food health and hygiene regulations, maintain records for high risk items as outlined by council guidelines.
  • Stock checking, accepting food deliveries and ensuring the safe storage of products.
  • Ensure that your work area, equiptment and section is kept clean at all times, in accordance with health and hygiene regulations.
  • Contributing to menu design in consultation with the Owner and Restaurant Manager
  • Provide training for junior staff when necessary.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Preferably 2 years + of relevant work experience
  • Associate degree, diploma, or certification in relevant Hospitality qualification.
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about in Thai cuisine.
  • Excellent knowledge of cooking methods, kitchen equipment, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Teamwork-oriented with outstanding leadership abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Pay: $75,000.00 – $80,000.00 per year
