About Us:

Pillar of Salt is a vibrant, community-focused café known for quality food, great coffee, and a welcoming atmosphere. We're looking for an experienced and creative Head Chef to lead our kitchen team, maintain high standards, and help drive our food offering to the next level.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily kitchen operations, ensuring efficiency and consistency in food preparation and presentation
  • Design, plan, and execute seasonal menus that align with the café's vision and customer preferences
  • Maintain food quality, portion control, and presentation standards
  • Manage ordering, inventory, and supplier relationships to ensure cost-effective purchasing and minimal waste
  • Train, motivate, and manage kitchen staff to foster a positive and professional team culture
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety and hygiene regulations
  • Monitor food costs, labour costs, and overall kitchen performance to meet business targets
  • Collaborate with management on specials, events, and new menu development

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3–5 years' experience in a Head Chef or Senior Sous Chef role (café, restaurant, or similar)
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Creative flair and passion for fresh, high-quality food
  • Sound understanding of cost control and menu planning
  • Current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
