
Engineering Officer – Student

Are you a civil engineering student ready to gain real-world experience? We are offering a 12-week paid placement for a TAFE or university student who has completed their second or third year of study.
You will be working within our Infrastructure and Natural Assets Group alongside experienced professionals on a variety of municipal projects, including roads, stormwater, subdivisions, and asset management.
Key responsibilities- Investigate customer issues related to council assets and assist with resolution and communication.
- Support civil design projects by contributing to feasibility studies, cost estimates, and adherence to Australian Standards.
- Assist with on-site inspections, testing, and new subdivision service location checks.
- Contribute to asset management by collecting and entering data into council systems.
- Provide basic technical and engineering advice under guidance from senior staff.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on engineering and asset management matters.
- Draft technical reports and attend relevant internal and external meetings.
- Provide general support across the Infrastructure and Natural Assets Group as needed.
You're a motivated and curious learner who thrives in a team and is eager to apply your engineering studies in a real-world context. You enjoy solving problems, ask the right questions, and are open to feedback and guidance.
You'll also bring:
- Successful completion of 2–3 years of a civil engineering qualification (university or TAFE).
- A willingness to take initiative and seek direction when needed.
- Enthusiasm, resilience, and a growth mindset.
- Good interpersonal and listening skills, with the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders.
- Confidence in digital tools and a willingness to learn new systems and technologies.
- Base salary between $67,874.45 – $75, pro-rata) (dependent on skills and experience) + superannuation
- Fixed Term Contract/Full-Time Hours
- Monthly rostered day off
