About the Role

The City is seeking a motivated and innovative person with a strong focus in youth, who has experience in policy writing, stakeholder management, social planning, research and project management to join the Childhood and Youth Planning team as a Community Development Planner (youth). The role will utilise your skills in strategic community development, community capacity building, policy development, relationship building, project management, data analysis, strategic writing and advocacy to deliver social outcomes for our community.

As a collaborative member of the Childhood and Youth Planning team, the position has a focus on developing and implementing strategically focussed youth and community development actions and projects. We are seeking someone with excellent relationship building skills, an ability to consider broader City or community impacts of any work being undertaken and good problem solving and analytical skills.

Key aspects of your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing, implementing and evaluating community plans, council reports, and policies focused on young people.
  • Supporting the implementation of the City's Community Development and other social plans.
  • Organising and participating in community and stakeholder reference groups and networks.
  • Developing strategic relationships government agencies, industry bodies, service providers and other key stakeholders, with a focus on capacity building services on community development matters.
  • Advocating for and facilitating community-based youth initiatives delivered through sustainable partnerships.
  • Undertaking social research and applying evaluation frameworks to assess the impact of youth and community development initiatives.

About You

You will be an adaptable and collaborative community development professional, with specific skills and experience in youth development, community development, community needs assessment and project management. You will thrive working in a busy and change driven organisation and positively contribute to the team's culture.

  • Experience in establishing strong and effective partnerships with service providers and other key stakeholders to develop responses to community issues and opportunities.
  • Planning and facilitating community initiatives and projects.
  • Grant management and policy review – preferably within the community sector
  • Experience in undertaking and reporting clearly on social research within youth or community context including evaluation methods.
  • Advanced organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks.
