About the Role

As one of the fastest growing local governments in Australia, our community has expressed a desire for more distinct local character in their suburbs and for vibrant, activated places that they love to visit.

The City is seeking an experienced team player, with experience and expertise in working collaboratively with colleagues and members of the community to improve the places where people live, work and recreate.

The successful appointee will be responsible for supporting the delivery of the City's place approach, with a primary focus on East Wanneroo - a large rural area projected to experience significant urbanisation.  This includes:

  • Providing leadership and contributing to the development of a positive organisational culture with a focus on place outcomes;
  • Thinking strategically to manage, review and improve how the City does business to achieve the best outcome for the community and the City's places;
  • Coordinating and aligning City projects and services to address community place priorities; and
  • Engaging land developers, stakeholders and customers to identify collaboration opportunities, establish priorities and ensure that a diverse range of viewpoints is considered in the City and community's decision making.

The position is accountable for implementing a place management approach at the City, ensuring that new development in East Wanneroo has regard to the City and community's shared vision for this area, and working collaboratively to translate this into on-ground benefits for the community.

About You

You must be adaptable, and experienced in working with people from a variety of backgrounds and expertise to focus on what is best for the 'place'.  You must thrive working in a large, very busy and change driven organisation.

Given the focus of this position on an area subject to current structure planning and development, qualifications in urban & regional planning, urban design, community development or economic development would be beneficial to succeed in this role.

You must be able to demonstrate through your CV and covering letter that you meet the following capabilities:

  • Significant experience in a similar role with a large and complex organisation;
  • Advanced communication (written, verbal and public speaking) and problem-solving skills;
  • Advanced research and analysis skills;
  • Advanced negotiation and influencing skills; and
  • Advanced customer service skills.
