About the Role
The Approval Services team has an opportunity for a highly experienced Town Planner to make their next career step as a Specialist Planner. Reporting to the Manager Approval Services, this role offers the opportunity to apply your experience and skills to major urban growth and redevelopment projects within the largest Local Government Western Australia. The successful appointee will be responsible for:
- Leading assessment and reviews of Local Structure Plans for East Wanneroo and the northern coastal corridor
- Assessing significant development applications and preparing Development Assessment Panel and Council reports
- Coordinating responses to complex land subdivision matters
- Managing relationships with major land developers;
- Preparing and assessing scheme and structure plan amendments;
- Providing mentoring and support to team members as required;
- Engaging with proponents and internal stakeholders on key developments within the City;
- Exercising delegation on planning applications in accordance with the City's Delegated Authority Register;
- Engaging with customers in formal and informal consultations, participating in working groups and interagency meetings and negotiations
About You
The successful appointee must be an adaptable, experienced Planner who thrives working in a very busy and change driven organisation. Applicants must be able to demonstrate through their CV and covering letter that they meet the following capabilities:
- Tertiary qualification in relevant discipline such as Urban and Regional Planning;
- Significant experience in a similar role is essential;
- Advanced knowledge and experience in the application of planning principles, practices and legislation;
- Advanced knowledge of structure planning, subdivision development approval and complex issues affecting land use management;
- Demonstrated ability to project manage and proactively resolve complex and sensitive planning matters autonomously with minimal supervision, and to effectively communicate with a range of stakeholders;
- Advanced organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks;
- Strong report writing skills; and
- C Class Driver's Licence.
