The Role

Due to continual growth, we are seeking an experienced and ambitious Bookkeeper/Administrator to join our team on a full-time, in person basis with experience in the construction industry. This is a diverse and fast-paced role where you will take ownership of the entire accounting function, including day-to-day financial operations, payroll, financial analysis and reporting, month end, cost tracking, accounts management and administration work.

The ideal candidate will be proactive and self-motivated, capable of not only managing day -to-day financial operations but also providing analysis and insight to support strategic decision-making and drive business improvement.

You must have legal working rights in Australia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Payroll Processing: Administer the fortnightly payroll for all employees, including calculating wages, overtime and deductions. Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing in compliance with company policies and legal requirements. Finalisation of contribution of employee's entitlement as per the Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA).
  • Cost Tracking & Reporting: Maintain accurate daily project cost record including (labour, materials and subcontractors etc.) Prepare detailed monthly project cost reports, annual P&L budgets and balance sheets.
  • Accounts Management: Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll and tax regulations, including tax withholdings, garnishments, and reporting requirements.
  • Employee Support: Address and resolve employee payroll inquiries, discrepancies, and issues in a timely and professional manner. Perform ad-hoc tasks as directed by the Managing Director.
  • System & Administration: Advanced use of accounting/payroll software, Xero for accounting, payroll and purchase order. Use Blip for employee time tracking and Microsoft Excell (advanced) for analysis and reporting. Assist with system upgrades and troubleshooting as needed.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Formal qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related field are highly regarded. Professional certification (e.g., Certified Payroll Professional) is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a similar hands-on accounting role, preferably within the construction industry. Proven experience with payroll, budgeting, cost reporting and administration.
  • Skills: Advanced proficiency in Xero and Microsoft Excel is essential. Experience with Blip or similar time-tracking software is advantageous. Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge:  Strong understanding of payroll procedures, tax regulations, and compliance requirement
