About You

SMC is seeking a results-driven and technically proficient Key Account Manager to join our Melbourne sales team. This pivotal role focuses on managing and expanding relationships with key clients by delivering tailored solutions and executing strategic sales initiatives.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with allocated key accounts, serving as the main point of contact and aligning solutions to meet client needs.
  • Identify and pursue growth opportunities through strategic engagement with key customers, including engineering consultancies and design firms.
  • Develop and execute tailored sales plans, ensure accurate CRM updates, and deliver regular performance reporting to drive account growth and increase market share.
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure timely service delivery and support achievement of sales targets.
  • Support new product introductions and customer-specific solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and product support to customers, reinforcing SMC's reputation for quality and service.
  • Contribute positively to team culture and support broader sales initiatives through active collaboration and knowledge sharing.

To be considered for this role, you will need to possess and exhibit the following skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Engineering, or equivalent sales management experience selling either mechanical or electrical engineered product (minimum 7-10 years)
  • Commercial and financial understanding of a level to confidently interpret analysis of market opportunities, information and data, provide input for informed sales budget and forecast planning
  • Prior experience in the manufacturing industry and an understanding of automation is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and CRM systems
  • Strong negotiation, presentation, and communication skills with demonstrated ability to develop relationship at executive level.
  • Valid Australian Driver's license is a must.

Note: This role may require a substantial amount of travel, the candidate must be willing to spend some time away from home travelling to cover the areas and clients allocated/developed.
