NOTE - This is a casual contract to begin with, with opportunity to move to permanent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to execute precise fabrication tasks
  • Perform high-quality welding using TIG, MIG, and stick welding techniques across various metals, including mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium
  • Weld in multiple positions, including vertical, horizontal, and overhead, ensuring consistent bead width, penetration, and precision
  • Set up, operate, and maintain welding equipment, press brakes, lathes, milling machines, drills, and other fabrication and machining tools.
  • Perform basic machining operations such as turning, milling, and drilling to support fabrication projects and create or modify parts as needed.
  • Assemble metal components and structures through welding, bolting, or riveting
  • Finish fabricated products by cleaning, polishing, filing, or applying protective/decorative coatings or acid treatments
  • Inspect welds and fabricated components to ensure compliance with quality standards and project specifications
  • Collaborate with the team to troubleshoot and resolve fabrication challenges
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment in line with workplace health and safety (WHS) regulations
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workshop efficiency and output

Skills & Qualifications

  • Essential: Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade (MEM30319) or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum of three years' experience as a Welder / Metal Fabricator or in a similar role
  • Proficiency in TIG, MIG, and stick welding techniques
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
  • Experience operating press brakes, lathes, milling machines, drills, and other fabrication and machining equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • A proactive, can-do attitude with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a small team environment
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices
  • Desirable: Experience with CAM software for fabrication processes
  • Familiarity with CNC machining or plasma CNC cutting
  • Previous work on prototype development or custom fabrication projects
  • Experience with manual machining operations, including lathe turning, milling, and drilling.
  • Knowledge of assembly techniques for mechanical components.
