About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will lead the electrical and mechanical design of commercial and industrial solar and battery storage systems, from concept through to construction handover.

You'll coordinate with clients, contractors, consultants, and network authorities to ensure designs meet all regulatory, technical, and commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead design and documentation for C&I solar and BESS projects (30 kW – 5 MW+)
• DC system design — PV string configuration, voltage drop, inverter input checks, and cable sizing
• AC system design — voltage rise calculations, cable selection, protection systems, switchboard specifications, and and protection coordination studies
• Coordinate and resolve technical matters with DNSPs, RPEQs, authority inspectors, and HV consultants
• Develop and review complex grid connection applications and protection schemes in collaboration with consultants and network engineers
• Design Solar and battery integration and control interfaces (EMS, backstop, and protection relays)
• Mechanical layout design across various roof types and ground-mount systems
• Cable management and inverter station layouts
• Preparation of SLDs, Protection and monitoring schematics, and detailed design documentation in AutoCAD
• Generate and verify Bills of Materials (BOMs) for procurement and costing
• Conduct site assessments to confirm infrastructure capacity and installation feasibility
• Site commissioning and technical support to setup monitoring and system communications
• Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior engineers and drafters

Ideal Candidate

• SAA Grid-Connected PV Design & Install Accreditation (essential)
• BESS SAA Accreditation (highly regarded)
• 4–5 years' experience in C&I solar design in Australia (EPC or consultancy background preferred)
• Demonstrated experience with battery integration, protection, and control systems
• Strong knowledge of AS/NZS 3000, 3008, 4777.1/.2, 5033, and CEC guidelines
• Familiar with DNSP protection,  and metering requirements (e.g., United Energy, Jemena, Powercor, AusNet)
• Proficient in AutoCAD, PVsyst (Essential) and PowerCAD (preferred)
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
• Organised, self-motivated, and passionate about renewable energy
